Speech recognition runs on Phonon-2 inside the app, and the clean-up that removes fillers, repeated words and false starts runs on the Mac as well. None of this processing needs a connection, and none of it sends audio or text to us. Your dictation history and your Quick Notes are stored in Detta's folder on your Mac, and deleting a note deletes its recording. If you turn on access for an AI agent, that agent can read your notes on the same Mac, including their recordings; it cannot change them, and turning the switch off ends its access. ## What is shared when sharing is on Sharing is on when you first set up Detta, and you can turn it off at any time. While it is on, each dictation is shared as the recording (a 16 kHz WAV file), the words Detta first recognised, the final text it typed, the times the dictation started, ended and was finished, your home country, and identifiers for the versions of the app, the model and the speech engine. Detta does not share which application you were typing into. Quick Notes, with their recordings, are never uploaded; they stay private on your Mac. Shared items wait in an encrypted queue on your Mac and are uploaded in the background when your Mac is online, never while you are dictating and never over a connection macOS marks as expensive. A dictation's recording leaves your Mac when it is uploaded; Detta keeps no other copy of it. They are stored in our Google Cloud storage in the United States under a hashed identifier for your account, not under your name or email address. ## Why we use it We use shared dictations to improve Detta and to train and evaluate our speech recognition models. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not share them with other companies. ## Turning sharing off and deleting your data To stop sharing, open Settings in Detta and turn off Sharing. Nothing further is uploaded from that moment, and anything still waiting on your Mac is discarded. We keep shared dictations until you ask us to delete them; there is no automatic expiry. To delete everything you have shared, including problem reports, email contact@fermionresearch.com; we delete it and confirm. Data derived from your dictations for training is removed the next time we build our training sets, and a record that the deletion happened is kept, with no audio or text in it. ## Reporting a problem If you choose Report a problem in About, you write a description and press Send; nothing is sent unless you do. The report contains what you wrote, the most recent part of Detta's own log, and technical details: the versions of the app and of macOS, your Mac's model, which model Detta was running and whether polish and sharing were on. The log records what the app did; it never contains the text or audio of your dictations, the names of your files or the apps you type into. A report does not include your name or email address. It is filed in our Google Cloud storage in the United States under the same hashed identifier as your shared dictations, and we use it only to fix Detta. We keep a report until we delete it or you ask us to; an email to contact@fermionresearch.com removes your reports along with everything else you have shared. ## Signing in Detta asks you to sign in with Google once. Our servers do not store your name, your email address or your Google account identifier; they keep only a one-way hash of your sign-in identifier, which connects your shared dictations to your account so that we can delete them when you ask. During setup Detta suggests your home country from your Mac's region settings and asks you to confirm it. The country is kept on your Mac and sent with each dictation you share, so that we can see which accents our models are learning from. ## Updates Once a day, Detta checks fermionresearch.com/appcast.xml for a new version. The request carries the version of the app you are running; like any web request, it also reaches our server from your network address. ## Contact Questions about this policy, or requests about your data, go to contact@fermionresearch.com.
